Introduction

The Forestry Camp Taichung Branch Office Accommodation, built between 1927 and 1930, is a significant Japanese-style wooden structure that once served as lodging for Japanese staff and visiting officials during the Basianshan Forest Farm period. The building features a long rectangular layout: the eastern side is a single-story section divided into reception and lodging areas, while the western side is two stories, with a reception room on the ground floor and a tatami room on the upper floor that once overlooked the timber pond. Its architectural features include ventilated overhanging floor designs, decorative eaves brackets, built-in storm shutters, and sliding wooden doors, showcasing the unique characteristics of wooden structures from the Japanese colonial period.

Designated as a Taichung City Historic Site on April 23, 2015, the building was officially renamed the Forestry Camp Taichung Branch Office Accommodation in 2018. Restoration work began in 2022 and took three years to complete, following a "restore as original" principle, preserving original components and old Taiwanese cypress materials. On August 29, 2025, a grand opening ceremony will be held, featuring light installations, eco-cultural exhibitions, and multi-themed immersive displays, allowing visitors to deeply engage with Taiwan's forestry culture and history.
